Grendel 2TAC analog sequencer with RA-99 Grenadier

This video demonstrates the Grendel 2TAC 2-track analog controller with the Grendel RA-99 Grenadier analog synthesizer. The Grendel 2TAC has two tracks of CV-Gate output (1v/oct). For synchronization, it has an internal tempo generator, analog pulse-per-step Clock In/Out, and Reset pulse In/Out. This video tutorial shows some of its pattern editing features, time stretching, creating pattern chains, altering the tuning, mashing several patterns together simultaneously, and generating random patterns. We will be offering a limited issue of the 2TAC as pictured in the video with black aluminum case, walnut sides, and red or yellow LEDs. For visual reference, this version comes with the key commands printed as a graphic on the underside of the case.

Grendel DC-2, Formant Filter, RA-99 Grenadier

Key of C minor, tempo 84 BPM.
This synth demonstration from Rare Waves uses the Grendel DC-2 as a tone source. Grendel Formant Filter provides vowel filtering, and Grendel RA-99 Grenadier is performing the LFO duties. Rare Waves Hydronium is used as a MIDI-CV converter to set the pitch of the DC-2’s oscillators. In the picture you also see a prototype Polyphonic Strobe Tuner, which provides a real-time pitch analysis. Also heard in the mix are our prototypes of a Surf Sound Synthesizer and Spring Reverb.

RA-99 Demo Track: Contaminate Your Speakers

In this video demonstration we present a music track made entirely with sounds from the Grendel RA-99 Grenadier, plus synthetic speech from our MIDI Narrator. After the music track, the video presents a walk-through of how the sounds were created in detail. Annotated subtitles explain how to patch the RA-99 to get distorted bass drums, pink noise percussion, acid tones, and lead sounds. There is also a close up of how the synthetic voice is assembled in a DAW piano roll editor, using a MIDI keyboard map to arrange the SP0256A-AL2 allophones into words.

DC-2e and RA-9

Demoing the Grendel RA-9 Grenadier and DC-2e Drone Commander 2.  A sequenced LFO effect is obtained by patching the Grenadier’s sequencer output to the LFO CV input of DC-2e.  The track was composed with MIDI in Reaper DAW software, using a 4-channel MIDI-to-CV converter to interface the analog intruments.  The analog snare drum and bass drum are new prototype designs in development here at Rare Waves…

F-Sharp Fantasy

‘F-Sharp Fantasy’ .. All sounds in this track were created with the Grendel RA-9 Grenadier semi-modular analog synth. We used Reaper for MIDI sequencing, and a Vermona QMI for MIDI-CV conversion to control the Grenadier by CV-Gate. One Grenadier was used in creating this track, and the composition was built up in layers through overdubbing. Grenadier’s onboard trigger loop sequencer was used to alter the gate pattern of the bassline to add variation. The only non-stock sounds are the whispery percussion effects created by connecting a pink noise source to the Grenadier’s EXT.IN jack. 2015 Rare Waves LLC.

Bass Jam in E

‘Bass Jam in E’ .. The onboard analog sequencer was used to modify the LFO rate in rhythmic patterns. The only non-stock sounds are the whispery percussion effects created by connecting a pink noise source to the Grenadier’s EXT.IN jack. 2015 Rare Waves LLC.
